Terms of Use & Disclaimer
The terms on which LIOSA and its screening packs are provided.
Last updated: 11/06/2026.
1. Who we are
This website and the LIOSA service are operated by James Hayes in Ireland, contactable at jamesdhayesyvc@gmail.com. By using this site you agree to these terms.
2. What LIOSA is — and is not
LIOSA is a first-pass peatland site screening and context tool. It assembles and presents information drawn from third-party and public/government data sources to help you decide whether a site is worth deeper investigation. It is intended for use by ecology and environmental professionals exercising their own judgement.
LIOSA is not an ecological verdict, a determination of suitability, or professional advice. It does not replace field survey, hydrological assessment, ecological judgement, expert review, or any statutory assessment (including AA Screening, Appropriate Assessment, or EIAR processes). You remain responsible for verifying all information and for any report, decision or submission you produce.
3. Accuracy disclaimer
The information in LIOSA, including screening packs, is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Much of it originates from third parties and public bodies and may be incomplete, out of date, generalised, or inaccurate. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we give no warranty or representation, express or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, currency or fitness for any particular purpose of the information, and we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. You must verify any figure against its cited source before relying on it.
4. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, LIOSA or any screening pack, including any decision taken or report produced on its basis. LIOSA is provided to support your own professional judgement, not to replace it.
Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (this includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud).
5. Intellectual property
The LIOSA name, site design and the compiled presentation of screening packs are owned by us or our licensors. Underlying data remains subject to the licences of its original sources (see section 7).
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the site, attempt to disrupt it, or use it unlawfully.
7. Data sources & attribution
LIOSA compiles information from public and third-party sources. Where those sources require attribution, it is given here and/or alongside the relevant content:
- Maps: © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).
- NPWS (National Parks & Wildlife Service) — designated-site information and publications, used with attribution.
- Other public sources — government publications, statutory documents and published research, each credited where it is used (see the source list on each screening pack).
Attribution and licence terms remain the property of the respective bodies. We only use data that permits this use; if you believe a source is shown that should not be, please tell us at jamesdhayesyvc@gmail.com and we will remove it.
8. Privacy
Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Notice.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction.
